Tasting notes
Tomi no Oka Winery's 1997 vintage is something special, you know. Made in Japan's Yamanashi region, this red has earned its place in the realm of Japanese wines. After years of waiting, now's the perfect time to open it up and see what it's all about. Definitely a choice for a memorable occasion.
This wine makes an appearance in Volume 14 of ‘Drops of God’. It was chosen by Issei for a Japanese-French dining event, and the description there is just stunning. It talks about a velvet-like sheen and an incredibly smooth texture. The balance of acidity and tannins is spot-on, with a hidden richness of fruit flavor.
When you pour it into a glass, you'll notice a garnet hue with a brick-red tinge. The aroma opens up with ripe black cherries and dried plums, accented by a subtle sous-bois scent. It's got this captivating depth to it.
Take a sip, and you'll feel a full-bodied fruitiness unfolding. The acidity is lively, and the tannins are velvety smooth. It shows the character of 29 years of aging, with everything flowing in harmony. The finish is fairly long, giving you plenty of time to savor each moment.
