Tasting notes
Château Mouton Rothschild is one of those iconic Bordeaux wines owned by the Rothschild family. The 1990 vintage is quite special, standing out in its long history. It mainly uses Cabernet Sauvignon with some Merlot blended in. When you open this, you really get to taste the essence of Bordeaux.
This wine pops up in the 7th volume of "Kami no Shizuku," where Shizuku receives it from Issei. In the scene, it's referred to as a somewhat mediocre red, but the real 1990 Mouton is nothing short of spectacular. It's a whole different experience from what you see in anime or manga.
Pouring it into the glass, you'll see a deep garnet color with a hint of brick at the edges, hinting at its age. As you take a sniff, rich aromas of cassis and black cherry hit you first, followed by tobacco, spice, and some dried herbs. The complexity is just captivating.
Taste it, and you'll find it starts with a lush fruitiness, then silky tannins gently glide over your tongue. The acidity is lively, giving the wine a nice structure. The finish is long, with those complex aromas lingering. It's the kind of wine you'd want to savor slowly in a slightly larger glass.
