Tasting notes
Henri Gouges' Nuits-Saint-Georges Les Pruliers 2002 is one of those powerful Pinot Noirs from Burgundy that really stands out. Since the 1920s, they've been crafting wines in this region, and this bottle captures all that tradition and passion. This Les Pruliers really showcases the unique character of the Gouges' vineyards.
Remember that scene in volume 7 where Shizuku gives this wine to Maki? It's like the fruit just leaps out at you, with such strength and balance alongside the tannins, capturing that masculine power of Burgundy. It was pretty unforgettable.
Pour it into the glass, and you'll see that garnet hue with a slight brick edge, indicating its maturity. On the nose, there's a rich mix of black cherry and plum, with hints of undergrowth and dried herbs adding complexity. When you taste it, there's a robust acidity and dense tannins that create a solid structure, while the rich fruit flavors burst across your palate.
The finish is long, with that powerful character lingering after every sip. This wine would be best served in a slightly larger glass at around 14–16°C. No need to decant. You should definitely give this one a try and experience the essence of Burgundy.
