Tasting notes
Château d'Yquem from Bordeaux's Sauternes—this one's a real gem. Made from Sémillon and Sauvignon Blanc, it's one of the greats in the world of sweet wines. The 1990 vintage has been aging for a solid 36 years, so opening it now is just perfect.
You remember in 'Drops of God' Volume 2, when they brought out this wine for the dessert? It was Mishima and Anne enjoying it, and you could almost feel the sweet, rich aromas and flavors jumping off the page. They really picked this wine for a reason.
Take a look at it—it's that deep amber color, and when you pour it, there's this lovely viscosity. The aromas are pretty incredible, with acacia honey, ripe pineapple, and a touch of saffron spice. When you sip it, the sweetness unfolds beautifully, with a nice acidity that keeps it all in balance. It's got this complex flavor profile that's just fascinating.
The finish is long, like time stands still when you drink it. Yet, it's not heavy—it's got this refreshing quality that just stays with you. I'd say chill it a bit and use a slightly larger glass to really enjoy it.
