Tasting notes
Gérard Bertrand's La Forge from the Languedoc region perfectly embodies the power and sophistication of southern France. The 2008 vintage captures the richness of the earth and the generosity of the sun that Languedoc is known for, making it a standout in Bertrand's collection. This wine brilliantly showcases the character of the region, earning its place as a star of the South.
In volume 31, Shizuku brings this wine to Moegi's brother's restaurant, advocating fervently for its inclusion. His passionate description of its unique flavors and the sunshine of southern France made a compelling case for it to be part of the restaurant's lineup. The wine's distinct charm and the spirit of the south were convincingly presented by Shizuku.
This wine presents a vibrant garnet hue and forms slow legs in the glass, suggesting it benefits from a bit of time to open up. The bouquet is rich with ripe black cherry and plum, accented by subtle tobacco notes. On the palate, it starts with a plush fruitiness, leading into a robust acidity and dense tannins. The overall structure is solid, with a long finish and spicy nuances typical of the southern French terroir.
This mature vintage is particularly endowed with concentrated fruitiness and complexity, best enjoyed slowly and thoughtfully. Serving it at around 14-16°C and allowing it to decant slightly will bring out its full potential.
