Tasting notes
Château Léoville is one of those legendary Bordeaux estates, you know? It's crafted mainly from Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, bringing together strength and elegance in a single bottle. Once a singular estate, it now stands divided into Léoville-Las Cases, Léoville-Barton, and Léoville-Poyferré.
In 'Drops of God', this wine makes its appearance in volume 25. It’s a vintage left behind by Hayama, a bottle aged for 140 years. The manga describes it as a wine that rises like a phoenix, maintaining its presence through time, which is just fascinating.
Pouring it into the glass, you’ll notice its deep garnet hue. The nose is open and filled with intense aromas of blackcurrant and black cherry, with hints of cedar and tobacco, capturing a sense of time passed. On the palate, the attack is rich with lively acidity spreading across your tongue. The tannins are dense, yet they dissolve elegantly, leaving a long, pleasant complexity in the finish.
If you’re going to enjoy this wine, consider decanting it a bit beforehand to really let its charm shine. It's a must-try for anyone who loves Bordeaux wines.
