Tasting notes
Château Latour is one of those legendary names in the Bordeaux region that doesn't really need an introduction. The 2005 vintage is primarily made from Cabernet Sauvignon, with Merlot and other grapes expertly blended in. This was an exceptional year for Bordeaux, with perfect growing conditions resulting in grapes of the highest quality. It's a full-bodied wine that still manages to convey an elegance that captures the essence of Bordeaux.
In Volume 25 of 'The Drops of God', Shizuku manages to identify this 2005 Château Latour without even opening it. It seems as though he was able to sense the special aura that this wine exudes. The 2005 vintage had every condition perfectly aligned for the grapes, and perhaps the wine communicates this in its presence.
Pour a glass, and you'll notice the deep garnet hue with a slight tawny edge, indicative of its aging. The aroma is intensely complex, with rich notes of blackberry and cassis layered with cedarwood and truffle hints. This complexity is a testament to its maturity and the evolution over time.
On the palate, it has a powerful attack with tannins that are velvety and smooth, underpinned by a solid structure. The acidity is robust, perfectly balancing the wine. The finish is long and leaves a lingering richness that stays with you. If you're opening this bottle, give it some time to breathe in a large glass and savor it slowly.
