Tasting notes
Domaine Méo-Camuzet's 1995 Echezeaux - Les Rouges du Bas is all about capturing the essence of Burgundy's special terroir. Echezeaux is renowned for Pinot Noir, and this wine is a prime example of that tradition, with a delicate beauty that's been enhanced over 31 years of aging. You really get a sense of Pinot Noir's elegance in this one.
In Volume 13, this wine was introduced by Shizuku Kanzaki during a lecture. He described it as something reminiscent of Monet's "Woman with a Parasol"—graceful and light, like a blonde lady standing in a gentle breeze. It's one of those wines that changes the atmosphere the moment you open it.
When you pour it into the glass, you see that brick-red rim, a testament to its maturity. The aroma is complex, with black cherry and spice, along with a hint of tea. As you taste it, the acidity is vibrant, and the tannins are velvety, leaving a lasting impression on your palate.
The finish is long and graceful, much like that blonde lady in the breeze. You should try it, experience that elegance for yourself. It's best enjoyed around 15 to 18°C, and a medium-sized glass would be perfect.
