Tasting notes
Chapoutier's Cigala Rouge is really something special, bringing together the richness of the Rhône soil through a masterful blend of Grenache and Syrah. The 2001 vintage stands out, thanks to the year's climate that brought out a robust fruitiness and complex flavors. After 25 years, it's perfectly aged and ready to be enjoyed right now.
In Volume 11, it pops up as the wine Mishima offered to Shizuku for tasting. It's a memorable scene—this wine was chosen for a reason, and it left quite an impression. You can really sense the allure of Cigala Rouge in that moment.
Pour yourself a glass, and you'll see this deep garnet color that speaks of its maturity. The aroma is rich, with concentrated notes of blackberry and black cherry, mingled with hints of spice and dried herbs. Just sniffing it makes you excited to take the first sip.
When you taste it, you'll notice its solid structure. The acidity is lively, and the tannins are as smooth as velvet. There's a rich fruitiness that harmonizes with the strong backbone, extending all the way through to the long finish. It's the kind of wine that makes you want another sip. I'd say, enjoy it in a larger glass, savor it slowly.
