Tasting notes
Château Pichon Longueville Baron, ever heard of it? This beauty hails from Pauillac in Bordeaux, mainly made from Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. It's a perfect blend of tradition and a bit of innovation, opening a bottle of this is always a bit of an adventure.
This wine makes its mark in the first volume of 'The Drops of God', where Shizuku uses a scent training kit to zero in on it. Remember how focused he was about picking up those complex aromas? It's a wine that really deserves that kind of attention.
Pour it into a glass and you'll see what I mean. The color—deep ruby with a good viscosity—catches your eye. Bring it up to your nose and boom, those cassis and black cherry aromas hit you first. There's a gentle vanilla sweetness in there too, with just a hint of black pepper spiciness adding a nice touch. Take a sip, and those robust tannins make their presence known, followed by a smooth, rich fruitiness that coats your tongue. The acidity's got a solid grip, keeping everything in balance.
And the finish? It's something else. Long-lasting, with an earthy, forest-like depth that makes you feel like you're in the middle of nature. If you open this, go for a larger glass to let it breathe and consider a bit of decanting for even more aroma magic.
