Letter from Yutaka Kanzaki
I find myself wandering through a deep forest shrouded in primeval woods. The scent of life, dampened by moss-covered trees, wafts through the air as I walk deeper into the forest seeking solace. Suddenly, a ray of light catches my eye. The scent of flowers and red fruits, which should not exist in the forest, fills the air. I place my hand on my chest to calm my racing heart as I continue my journey. Unexpectedly, the forest opens up to reveal a small, crystal-clear spring that emerges like a miracle. It appears suddenly, like an oasis in the desert, a waterside of healing. Bathed in light from above, the water's surface sparkles like countless jewels. Drawn by its beauty, I quietly approach the spring. In that moment, a breeze carrying the scent of sweet flowers and wild red fruits rushes past, filling my nostrils. The harmony of scents makes me forget I am deep within the forest. I feel a light dizziness and an unexpected longing for moisture. I dip my hand into the light, clear as fine crystal, and gently bring the surface water to my lips. What sweetness, what nobility! This richness, bestowed by nature's bounty, is truly fitting for this untouched land beyond human reach. Oh, look at those two intertwined violet butterflies! Perhaps this small spring is your sacred ground.
Tasting notes
You gotta try the 2001 Chambolle-Musigny Les Amoureuses by Georges Roumier. This bottle is 100% Pinot Noir, a real treasure from Burgundy. Opening it feels like you're tasting a piece of history, each sip linking the past and present.
This wine makes an appearance in Volume 6 of 'The Drops of God'. Just knowing it's featured in such a special scene adds to its allure. It really sets the stage for appreciating what makes this wine so remarkable.
Pour it into a glass, and you'll see this lovely brick color with an orange rim—a sign of its age. The aroma is inviting, filled with tea, sous-bois, and dried herbs. There's this delightful scent of ripe raspberries and cherries, with a hint of violet elegance underneath.
On the palate, it starts with a lively acidity that dances on your tongue, followed by velvety tannins that embrace you gently. The balance between acidity and tannins is spot-on, and you can really feel its rich body. The finish is long, and the complex flavors linger beautifully, so take your time and savor it slowly.
